A Mini Serengeti with Incredible Wildlife

Nestled between the Uluguru and Udzungwa Mountains, Mikumi National Park is often called the “mini Serengeti” due to its vast open plains and diverse wildlife. As part of the Selous ecosystem, it boasts an abundance of wildlife, including lions, elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and hippos. The Mkata Floodplain, resembling the Serengeti, offers excellent game viewing, with predators like cheetahs and leopards often spotted in action.

A Safari Haven Without the Crowds

Unlike the northern parks, Mikumi provides a more intimate safari experience with fewer crowds and excellent game drives year-round. The park is also home to over 400 bird species, making it a fantastic destination for bird watchers. Whether exploring in a 4×4 vehicle or taking a guided walking safari, Mikumi offers an authentic Tanzanian wilderness experience.

The Best Time to Visit

Mikumi is a year-round safari destination, but the dry season (June–October) is best for game viewing as animals gather around water sources. The wet season (November–April) transforms the park into a lush paradise, attracting migratory birds and offering beautiful landscapes.
